Production Process

For this assignment, at first I got my ideas down on paper, drawing cartoon sketches of how I would like it to be like, all my ideas followed the same suite, to be a story which didnt take itself very seriously, and maybe have some sound effects? I started with an idea of just taking photographs, however I needed another person to base the story around, and this was quite hard having to find someone to help when you're on a tight schedule. I then got an idea of using cartoon chickens, in real life photographs.

With the sketches I drew, I took a digital camera of them, and got the photographs into Illustrator. I then used the pen and a combination of tools to create these sketches into vector graphics. Some layering and digital editing was also done in Photoshop. This was then combined with other digital photographs to create an almost real different world

With the graphics done, all that was needed to be done was the coding and the sound files. I then started to try and replicate my designs from paper into XHTML and CSS. Some of the time this didn't work as expected, however I feel that the code delivers the story well enough. I needed some help with the float command (using images side by side) so I used some reference material from links from Chris Marshes website - actual link - Blue Robot. This website gave me the solution to my problem. I also used the colour picker for choosing a colour scheme to make my website look a bit prettier :)

Once all of the coding and graphics was completed, I then concentrated with sound. I had downloaded a few midi files (from random websites, mainly fan bases for Square games)- which had no form of copyright, as these were made by fans, and not Square. I also got 2 film themes, from the Godfather, and Aliens, there was no copyright information linked to these either.

Now that some music was selected, I opened up Cool Edit and recorded me speaking into it as the voice of the chicken. I then placed them on the website with good results. The only problem was that I had gone over the 2mb limit, so I then took a wave file out (which was on the title screen) and lowered the quality of each wave file, this is the reason why it seems so crackly.

Evaluation

I felt that I had a good go at this assignment by trying things that haven't really been done before from within a website story. I was fairly dissapointed with the 2mb limit, as now most people have broadband anyway, but I hope this hasn't distracted the feel of my website.
